Adrien Berlioz

Adrien Berlioz is located near the small town of Chignin on the steep hills of the Bauges Massif, an area of the French Alps nestled between Switzerland and the Aosta Valley of Italy. After studying viticulture and oenology in Burgundy, Adrien inherited a small plot of family vines from his father. The fruit was originally sold to a local co-op. In 2006 Adrien opted not to sell the fruit and create his own winery. His picturesque vineyards sit at nearly 1300 feet, some with an extreme incline of 50%. Here everything is done by horse or hand. Adrien farms the traditional varietals of the Savoie, highlighting them each by dividing his vineyards and their geology into different parcels. Each parcel is farmed with its own unique specific needs in mind. This hard work and attentive care follows into the vinification process where parcels are vinified separately with a range of minimalist techniques resulting in distinct wines of alpine character.
