Claudio Plessi has committed himself entirely to the preservation of the grapes native to Modena. His small azienda agricola, found in the countryside commune Castelnuovo Rangone, has been in his family since 1958. Claudio, once a professor of agriculture, has been at the forefront of organic farming in the region. In 1986, he was a founder of the organic farmers association, Il Salto("the Leap"). Devoting himself solely to his vineyard in the early 2000s, he has seen to its expansion with plantings of ancient grape varieties native to the hills of Modena. Claudio focuses on highlighting these nearly extinct grapes by producing wines from each single varietal, showcasing their diverse characteristics. The viticultural preservation within Claudio’s vineyards provides an indispensable opportunity to experience these long-forgotten varieties.
