Domaine Colin
Patrice Colin is the 8th generation of his family to work the land on this estate. Located on the slopes of the Loire River tributary Le Loir, Coteaux du Vendomois is the most northerly of the Loire appellations. The Colin familial connection here dates to 1735. Originally agricultural farmers until Patrice’s ancestor, Emilien Colin transitioned the farm to focus on the production of wine. By 1900 the estate developed into 6 ha of vine and began directly selling their wine, an outlandish and ambitious move for the region. Patrice, in his time, grew the estate to 28 ha of vine, all while managing the care of all operations, from vineyard work to vinification and bottling. Now working toward his retirement Patrice guides his son, Pierre François, to head the estate. Together they tend to the vines planted by their ancestors, a throughline of the family’s craft, illustrating the potential of the hidden Loire backwaters.
