Domaine Pierre André

Jacqueline André heads her family’s estate in the southern Rhône Valley, where her great- grandfather established 4 ha of vines and her father, Pierre, spent his adolescence. In 1957 Pierre inherited those vines, founded Domaine Pierre André, and expanded their vineyard holdings. He briefly experimented with the readily accessible chemical sprays of the time, but unhappy with the results, he eliminated them from the vineyards completely and returned to his ancestral viticultural practices. In 1980 the estate was certified organic, the very first in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. In 1984 Jacqueline joined her father in the family business, and they marked their first year of estate bottled wine, ending the sale of their prized old vine fruit to negotiants. Jacqueline introduced biodynamic methods to the estate, and in 1992 they became among the very first of the region to be certified biodynamic. Nurturing the vines and producing wine of place and timeless elegance, Jacqueline continues her family’s bond to this land.
