Les Terres d'Ocre
Florent Barichard worked around the world for 10 years until returning to his homeland of Auvergne. With the support of his aunt and uncle, Valérie and Éric Nesson, who gave him nearly half of their vineyard holdings, he began Les Terres d’Ocre. Located on the historic sandy banks of the river Allier, the most significant of the Loire's tributaries, Saint-Pourçain sits just as close to Burgundy as it does to Sancerre. As home to some of France's most ancient vineyards, this forgotten Loire appellation has a storied past. This region once saw high acclaim from the Middle Ages up to the French Revolution, when its decline in prestige began. Some regions, notably Burgundy, regained their recognition, others like Saint-Pourçain lie in wait. Florent is one of a few in a new generation working to revive this land's reputation.
