Olivier Pithon
Olivier Pithon was raised in the hillside vineyards of Anjou, in the Loire Valley. Born into a family of winemakers, at 18 he left to study oenology in Bordeaux. Looking to chart his own path he took various internships throughout France. In 2001, with the desire to vinify his own vines, Olivier sought out land and through family connections found himself in the village of Calce. Captivated by the vast potential within Roussillon’s unique dichotomy of affordable land containing exquisite terroir, he quickly claimed 8.5 ha of old bush trained vines from a retiring co-op farmer. Today the estate has grown to 23 ha, while Olivier’s focus remains the same: “to give everything to my vines so that they give it back in their grapes and in my wine.” At the genesis of Roussillon’s revival Olivier has reshaped the regions character. “We never learn that the most essential thing is to make wines we love... the sensitivity to how wines can become pleasure, balance, and lightness.”
